Catherine Hammerton

I am a Welsh paper artist and printmaker based on the third floor at Model House Studios. My work is closely connected to nature and the common lands that I have grown up around in Wales; using wild flora as visual metaphors for my matrilineality alongside the notion of what it is to be common, what it is to belong – hiraeth – and the plant lore traditionally shared by women.

I make things with my heart and my hands, combining the way I understand people and places with found objects and selected finds; stuff and thingamabobs that have silently marked, observed and absorbed a lifetime of someones everyday. These ideas culminate as framed art objects and handprinted letterpress texts; conversations of kinship, sisterhood and sameness.

In my professional practice I have worked on site specific projects for high-end residential clients as well as supplying luxury department stores with small batch produced interior products, ethically made in the UK.

I have exhibited globally and during 2026 have been selected to show work at Future Icons Selects, the Royal Scottish Academy 200th Annual Exhibition and Decorex Makers alongside smaller gallery shows throughout the year.

Most recently I been supported with a Create Award from Arts Council Wales to extend and develop my artistic practice.
