Welcome to my world. Im an illustrator/ artist from the valleys in South Wales. My work is inspired by Music, film, fashion and sport. My work has a mordern unique twist with a graphic style. I believe my work screams modern cool and would stand out in any room.
Who is A Guy Called Minty?
I’ve has been illustrating professionally since becoming self-employed in 2008. Largely self-taugh, drawing superheroes and Warner Bros. cartoons as a kid, then moved into drawing footballers at school before becoming increasingly interested in graphic and fashion illustration where I went to higher education studying graphic design, fashion & textiles.
I'd say the key thing is that I’m not trying to make conventional photorealistic portraits. I take iconic recognisable people, places or objects and start my process sketching them into strong graphic shapes, the building up layers, colours and silhouettes while retaining enough detail for you to immediately know what you're looking at.
Football and casual culture
This is a particularly big part of my identity as an artist. I am drawn to illustrating iconic scenes from football, Manchester music and the casual scene being important starting points for my work.
My illustrations have appeared on clothing and products through collaborations with brands and retailers. For example, Ive collaborated with Adidas, Weekend Offender , Peaceful Hooligan , JD’s group and his work has also been used by Three-Stroke Productions for football/casual-inspired designs.
I’m not limited to commercial clothing either. More recently, my work has included things like the Spark mascot for Tennis Wales, where I professionally developed a child's winning dragon design into the finished mascot from Children’s entries.
My site currently includes prints, T-shirts, pin badges, mugs, bookmarks and his Mint Print Club, alongside his original artwork.
