I am a professional textile artist, living and working in Wales since 1985. My work draws on both traditional shibori techniques (the Japanese term for tie-dye) in combination with woad/indigo as well as with other natural plant dyes. I am known for my innovative combination of traditional techniques with new technologies; translating shibori patterns and textures into 3D wall based reliefs and fine-art installations.

My work records the actions found within shibori; stitching, binding, gathering, manipulating, and folding cloth - not only through the expected dye process, but predominantly as pure texture and form.

“Resist Gallery/Studio” is to be found on the 1st floor of Model House. Here you will find some of my fine art textiles but the space is also home to a textile emporium filled with my art-to-wear 3D textile necklaces, wraps and shrugs, as well as my Chinese inspired purse pods, brooches inspired by daffodils and other flowers, plus lavender bags, hair clips, and an assortment of textiles which are popular as gifts.

The gallery also features vintage Japanese fabrics which can be purchased by the quarter meter and vintage Japanese garments, in particular the shorter haori jackets traditionally worn over full length kimonos, which combine beautifully with elegant dresses and skirts as well as more casual wear such as jeans. A new range of Japanese inspired clothing and scarves will soon be added to the growing list of items available at the centre.
